Anchor Fastener Installation Guide
A step-by-step technical manual for the correct specification, drilling, and torqueing of mechanical and chemical anchor fasteners.
1. Assessing the Substrate
Before selecting an anchor, you must determine the compressive strength of the concrete base material. Standard wedge anchors require a minimum of 20 MPa (3000 psi) uncracked concrete for optimal holding power.
2. Drilling and Cleaning
The most common reason for anchor failure is improper hole cleaning. Use a hammer drill with a carbide bit matching the anchor diameter. After drilling, blow out the dust using compressed air and use a wire brush twice. Any residual dust acts as a lubricant and severely reduces pull-out strength.
